The Foundations of Our Faith

At Church of Ascension, our beliefs are the bedrock of our spiritual life and community actions. They guide us in worship, fellowship, and service. This page articulates the essential tenets that shape our journey as followers of Christ.

Rooted in Tradition, Growing in Faith

Uncover the beliefs that connect us to our Episcopal heritage and propel us toward a future of inclusive and dynamic faith practice.

Our Christian beliefs are more than historical creeds; they are living truths that shape our daily lives. At Church of Ascension, we are firmly rooted in the Episcopal tradition, honoring the liturgical heritage that brings depth and richness to our worship. Yet, we are not static.

We seek to express our faith in ways that resonate with today’s world, engaging both traditional and contemporary modes of worship. Our doors and our hearts are open to all, for we believe that every person is made in the image of God and is deserving of love and respect.

In every stage of life, from the joys of birth to the reflections of old age, we offer care that reflects the compassion of Christ. We believe that our faith calls us to be hands and feet of Jesus in the world, actively serving our community to enrich lives and spread God’s love.

WHAT WE BELIEVE

The Lord be with you.

Grant, O God, that your holy and life-giving Spirit may so move every human heart, that barriers which divide us may crumble, suspicions disappear, and hatreds cease; that our divisions being healed, we may live in justice and peace; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

OUR BAPTISMAL COVENANT

“We are all one in Christ because each and every one of us have passed through the same baptismal water.” -Bishop Doug Scharf

In the waters of baptism we are lovingly adopted by God into God’s family, which we call the Church, and given God’s own life to share, and reminded that nothing can separate us from God’s love in Christ.

We believe that “There is one Body and one Spirit; There is one hope in God’s call to us; One Lord, one Faith, one Baptism; One God and Father of all.” -Book of Common Prayer.

Through our baptism, we are marked as God’s own and we live that baptism in the present tense by healing divisions, building a safe and just community, serving those in need, and fostering loving relationships with God, with each other, and with the earth.
We invite you to worship with us and share the joy we have found in serving our Lord and the world He came to save. May God bless you.
